John D. Anderson, 86, of Vandalia, passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, surrounded by family, at his home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, with Pastor Kurt Simon officiating. Burial will follow at Farmers Cemetery rural Shobonier., Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. John was born October 24, 1935, in Shobonier, the son of John Leroy and Elizabeth (Frisby) Anderson. He married Sharon Kay Clark on December 11, 1965, in Hillsboro. John was a lifelong farmer but started out working at the Johnson – Stephens and Shinkle Shoe Factory, and the Vandalia Lumber Company. He served in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of SIU Carbondale with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. John was accomplished at billiards and was known as one of the area’s best snooker players, He was an avid Vandals sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survived by his wife, Sharon Kay Anderson, Vandalia; son, Mike Anderson and Lori, Vandalia; daughter, Lisa Newsome and Eric, Vandalia; daughter-in-law, Marcia Lamb, Hilltop Lakes, TX; three sisters, Mary Alender and Clarence, East Alton, Joann Tessman and Herb, Vandalia, and Nelda Cearlock and Robert, Vandalia; five grandchildren, Dalton Whitten, Catherine Anderson, Cassidy Anderson, Virginia Anderson and Emmalee Newsome.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John Anderson.
