Sam H. Jones, 83, of Vandalia, passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, at Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia.
Graveside service with Military Rites will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at Griffith Cemetery, Rural Brownstown, with Rev. John Wehrle officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 22, at First United Methodist Church, Vandalia. Memorials may be made to Fayette County Cancer Fund. He was born May 15, 1938, in Wartburg, TN, the son of Fred O. and Lenna (Hamby) Jones. He married Judith Ann Flowers on June 15, 1967, in Brownstown. Judy passed away on October 1, 1990. Sam worked at the Vandalia Correctional Center for 32 years. He retired in 1998 as a case work supervisor. Sam was a US Army Veteran and was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church, Vandalia. He was a Cumberland University Alumni and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by daughters, Amy Jones, Mary Holman and Scott and Heather Thompson and Cody, all of Vandalia; sister, Margaret Messer, and brother, Jim Jones, both of Wartburg, TN; and grandchildren, Zack Thompson, Madisyn Holman, Nolan Holman and Wade Thompson.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife; 4 brothers; and 7 sisters.
