90th running of Fayette County Fair starts on Friday with Mud Drags

The 90th annual Fayette County fair will kick off on Friday, July 9 and will run through next Wednesday, July 14 after being absent a year due to COVID.
Friday, July 9
It all kicks off Friday, with the Blue Grass Rides opening from 6 – 10 through Tuesday, July 13., and armbands will be available every night for $15. Tickets are $2 each.
Also beginning at 6 p.m., local fire departments will be in the dunking booth from 6-10 p.m.
Mud Drags will begin at 7 p.m., including Team Penning and Ranch Sorting beginning at 7.
Saturday, July 10
At 9 a.m. on Saturday, is the 4-H and Junior Horse and Pony Show, with the Junior Rabbit show beginning at 3 p.m.
The Whippoorwill Rodeo begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Carnival rides and the dunk tank will again start at 6 p.m.
Sunday, July 11
With the rides and dunk tank again starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday, a free concert will be given by 80s Boom Box Band, from 4-8 p.m.
The 4-H and Junior Poultry Show will begin at noon. Judging of the Agricultural and Garden products, as well as the Garden Exhibit, the Horticultural, Photography, Art Hobby, Rugs and Quilts, and the Culinary judging begins at 1 p.m..
The 4-H Goat Show will begin at 4 p.m., with the Master Showmanship awarded after that at 6:30 p.m.,
Monday, July 12
The Queen Pageants begin on Monday, as the Miss and Little Miss Pageants begin at 7 p.m., as well as the carnival rides and dunk tank at 6 p.m.
In the livestock shows, the 4-H sheep show will begin at 8 a.m., and the 4-H Beef Show and 4-H Dairy Steer Show starts at 11 a.m.
At 5 p.m. is both the 4-H Swine Show and the Junior Goat Show.
Tuesday, July 13
The Junior Miss and Future Miss Shows come on Tuesday night, at 7 p.m.
For livestock, the Junior Swine Show, Open Beef Show and Junior Beef Show all start at 8 a.m. the Open Swine Show will be held 30 minutes following the Junior Swine, with the Junior and Open Sheep Show to follow.
At 2 p.m., the Dairy and Junior Shows will begin, with the 4-H Livestock Auction to begin at 6 p.m.
The sale of a special red Holstein dairy steer will take place at the Fayette County 4-H Auction in memory of Holly Lidy. Hosted by the Fayette County Livestock Association on Tuesday, July 13th, 4-H members have the opportunity to sell their livestock projects to community members and businesses. Holly Lidy, a 7-year member of the Shafter Friends 4-H Club, was tragically killed in November 2019. Due to COVID, we were unable to honor her at the 2020 fair as wished.
Holly’s steer will conclude the auction, as the last animal of the evening. The money raised will benefit Fayette County 4-H. If you wish to make a donation, please contact one of the memorial organizers. Check can be made to OCF – Holly Lidy Scholarship Fund.
Wednesday, July 14
For the last day of the fair, the Truck and Tractor Pull closes the grandstand entertainment at 7 p.m.
For the shows, the 4-H and Junior General Projects Show is at 8 a.m., with the 4-H and Junior Dog Show at 2 p.m., the 4-H and Junior Cat Show at 4, and the 4-H Awards ceremony will conclude at 6 p.m.
