Vandalia Girls Track standout Riely Ward will be going to the state track meet next week as she took first place in shot and second in discus, breaking the school record with a distance of 104’9”. Ward also holds the record for the shot, which she set just a few weeks ago. The record was set at the Newton Sectional, held last Thursday, June 3.
Other placers in the meet were:
Kurstiana Sachan – 9th, high jump; 15th, 200m, and 21st, 100m
Ezmerelda Stark – 22nd, shot; 21st, discus
Kyleigh Roman – 19th, long jump; 21st, 200m, and 25th, 100m
Lauren Dothager – 14th, 1600m and 17th, 800m
Ward will compete in both of her events at the state meet at Charleston this weekend.
Also earning a spot at the state meet was Addie McWhorter of Brownstown St. Elmo, with a leap of 4’9.75” in the high jump, good for second place at the sectional meet.

@ Hillsboro
Vandalia had some good performances in a four-team meet on Monday, Mar. 25 in Hillsboro.
Placing in the meet were:
Seconds – Ward, shot put, 34’5.75”
Thirds – Ward, discus, 93’3”; Sachan, high jump, 4’4” and Roman, long jump, 12’4.5”
Fourths – Sachan, 200m dash, :31.75
@ Conference meet
The Lady Vandals also did well at the South Central Conference meet on Friday, May 28.
Placings at the meet were:
Firsts – Ward, shot, 34’4”
Seconds – Ward, discus, 91’10”
Fourths – Sachan, high jump, 4’6”, and Roman, 300 hurdles, 1:12.71
Eighths – Sachan, 200m dash, :32.11, and Stark, discus, 58’11”

The boys track team has also been doing well recently.
@ Pana
The Vandals had many placings at Pana in a meet with Cowden Herrick/Beecher City.
Firsts – Case Goldsmith, 110m dash, :11.74, 400m dash, :53.04 and Triple Jump, 37’ 9.5”, and Cole Tarkington, High Jump, 5’4”
Seconds –Goldsmith, shot, 35’3” and Christian Duplayee, 200m dash, :29.54
Thirds – Tarkington, long jump, 18’9,5”, and Waylon Hoover, 800m run, 2:38.49
Fourths – Duplayee, 400m dash, 1:05.14 and Long Jump, 15’

The Vandals came in fourth of seven teams in a multi-team meet at Altamont on Friday, May 26.
