Seventh grade netters finish season in regionals, eighth grade to post season

The seventh grade Lady Vandal volleyball team ended their season on the positive side, as they lost in the regional to Teutopolis, 25-4, 25-12. They finish the season with a 7-6 record.
In the regional, Olivia Whitehead and Lauren Johnson each had an ace, and Johnson scored one kill in the match.
Regular season
In the final two matches of the regular season, both the seventh and eighth graders split.
In the match against Teutopolis on Friday, March 4, the seventh grade lost in two, 25-4, 25-15. Madison Lofland had three aces in the match. Sierra Stewart had a kill, as did Johnson, who had one kill and one block.
On the eighth grade side, the Lady Vandals had two close games in the match, but pulled off the win, 25-22, 25-20. Bella Austin had 11 kills on the night; Livi Wehrle and Sadie Smith each had two. Austin had 2 aces, with Wehrle and Gracie Craig each having 1. Smith had 2 blocks and Austin had 1.
vs. Hillsboro
The seventh grade Lady Vandals had a go of it with Hillsboro on Wednesday, March 2, taking the match in two games, 25-26, 30-28.
Whitehead had 4 aces in the match, Brynn Swyers had 3 and Madison Lofland had one. Johnson put away 5 kills, Stewart had 3, and Lofland had 1.
The eighth grade came up on the short end of a very tough match, between two evenly matched teams. However Hillsboro took the match 29-27, 25-21.
Austin had 6 kills, Smith, 3; and Wehrle and Krueger each with 2. Austin also led in aces with 7 and Dunn, Laney Dunn-Swyers had 3. Austin had two blocks in the match.
Regionals
The eighth grade moves on to regional action as they face Teutopolis yet again this Saturday at 10 a.m. at home. They are ranked second, while T’town is ranked third.
The winner of that game will face the winner of the first game, between top-ranked Newton and Toledo-Cumberland. The location of the final has yet to be announced.
