Pete McNary, 67, Vandalia

Pete McNary, 67, of Vandalia, died at 11:46 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Greenville Regional Hospital in Greenville.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Dan Rush officiating. Burial with military rites will be in McInturff Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Memorials: American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners’ Hospitals for Children.

Mr. McNary was born on Aug. 4, 1942, in Vandalia, the son of Leslie Calvin and Dorothy Margaret Cunningham McNary. He married Phyllis Jean Coburn on Dec. 29, 1963, in Hagarstown.

He was a farmer, truck driver and CDL driving instructor, and he served in the Marine Corps.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Tim McNary and his wife Sharon of Vandalia, and Ty McNary and his wife Michelle of Vandalia; brother, Gene McNary and his wife Linda of Huntsville, Ala.; sisters, Vivian and her husband Art Hewing of Neoga, and Pat Strullmyer of Brownstown; very special brother and sister-in-law, Judy and Burle Smith; and grandchildren, Richard Ripperda, and Clay, Trey, Garett, Lanee and Chase McNary.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
