Brownstown student charged after alleged threat last week

Felony charges have been filed against a Brownstown High School student who allegedly threatened another student through the networking website Facebook.
Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison said that he has charged the 15-year-old student with three counts of intimidation and one count of interference with an educational institution.
Each of the two charges is a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Because of his age, the youth is being prosecuted through juvenile proceedings.
The youth was taken into custody and arrested by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at Brownstown High School after school district authorities learned of the alleged threat on Facebook and talked to the student.
Brownstown School District Superintendent Adam Bussard explained the situation to parents of district students in a letter on Friday.
In that letter, Bussard told parents that an evacuation of students or a lockdown of the school was not necessary because it had been determined that the student did not have a weapon and was under supervision in the school office.
He told parents that school officials had implemented its safety plan upon learning of the alleged threat.
