    Brownstown/St. Elmo lost to Hillsboro, 11-1, last Friday at Bob Page Field in Brownstown.
    Nate Philpot, Caleb Atwood, Bryton Pruett and Alex Higgs each had one hit for the Bombers. Philpot had the team’s lone RBI, and Pruett had a double.
    Philpot took the loss, giving up four runs and just three hits, striking out seven and walking four.

    St. Elmo/Brownstown fell to Clay City/North Clay last Thursday, 8-5, in a home contest.

  • SEB's Lewis Brown named EIC...

    St. Elmo/Brownstown’s Lewis Brown was named the most valuable player as the Egyptian-Illini Conference released its 2017-18 all-conference boys basketball teams.
    Joining Brown on the EIC first team was teammate Isaac Maxey; Courtlyn Latham, Alex Franklin and Joey Linnabary of Mulberry Grove; and Dylan Webster of Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.
    Named to the second team were Hayden Seaton and Kolten Adermann of Ramsey; Andy Goldsborough of St. Elmo/Brownstown; Colton Hill of Patoka; and Keegan Martin of CHBC.

    Freshman Morgan Lidy struck out 13 Altamont hitters and allowed just one run on six hits as the Lady Vandals picked up their first win of the season last Friday.

    Former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Bernard Gilkey is the featured guest at this year’s Cardinals Baseball Dinner, sponsored by the Greater Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.
    The event is Saturday, April 14, at the American Legion Home, 321 S. Seventh St., Vandalia. A ballpark menu dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by a Q & A with Gilkey at 7 p.m. Fans may get free autographs after the program.

    The Vandalia Junior High School seventh-grade volleyball team’s season ended on Monday with a loss to Pana, 16-25, 18-25.
    The seventh-graders finished the season with a record of 9-10.
    The seventh-graders advanced in the regional by defeating Carlinville, 25-13, 25-23, on Saturday.
    On Friday, the seventh-graders defeated Ramsey, 25-19, 25-13. The eighth-graders defeated Ramsey, 25-9, 25-21.
    On Thursday, the seventh-graders lost to Hillsboro, 11-25, 21-25. The eighth-graders defeated Hillsboro, 25-23, 27-29, 25-15.
