  • Golf team scramble reset for...

    The Vandalia Community High School golf team's four-person golf scramble fundraiser at Vandalia Country Club has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 28.
    The scramble has a 9 a.m. shotgun start, and the cost for four-person teams is $40 per person.
    Door prizes will be awarded to all participants.
    To reserve a team in the tournament, mail entries by April 27 to: Vandalia Country Club, c/o Joe Kelly or Kevin Schroeder, 1119 S. Eighth St., Vandalia, Ill. 62471. Make checks payable to Vandalia High School Golf Team.

  • YMCA youth golf program begins...

    The Family YMCA of Fayette County, in collaboration with Vandalia Country Club and the Vandalia High School golf program, are offering a youth golf program designed to provide youth a fun and interactive experience learning the game of golf.
    The program is for boys and girls ages 8-15. The cost is $40 for YMCA members and $80 for non-members.
    Clinic will be offered on Mondays and Thursdays, April 26-May 24. The times are: beginners: 5:30-6:15 p.m.; and intermediates: 6:15-7 p.m.
    Registration is limited to 12 per group.

  • Zimmerman tabbed for Shrine Game

    A record-breaking member of this year’s Vandalia Vandals football squad has been chosen to participate in this year’s Illinois High School Shrine All-Star Football Game.
    And Marcus Zimmerman is seeking sponsorships for the game, to be held on June 16 at Tucci Stadium on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.
    Zimmerman finished his career at Vandalia Community High School as an all-state selection and the first Vandal receiver to surpass 1,000 yards in a season.

    The newly formed VCHS Bass Club participated in its first competition, the Newton & Teutopolis High School Invitational, on Friday, March 30.

  • Vandals beat Cumberland to...

    Vandalia’s baseball Vandals defeated Cumberland, 8-2, on Saturday at Effingham to improve to 3-0 on the season.
    The Vandals scored three times in the second inning, twice in the fourth inning and three times in the sixth.
    Matthew Wells got the win for the Vandals, allowing two runs on five hits, one earned. He gave up five hits, struck out seven and walked two.
    Cameron Gelsinger recorded the last three outs to earn a save.
    Nathan Casey led the Vandals on offensive with a 2-for-2 performance.
    Seven Vandals recorded an RBI in the win.
