    Hunter Brandt went 4-for-4 with four runs batted in to lead South Central to an 8-2 win against Windsor/Stew-Stras on Tuesday at Lions Park in Kinmundy.
    South Central led 1-0 after one inning and tagged on five runs in the fourth inning to seal the win.
    Brandt also got the win for the Cougars, striking out 12 and walking just one in a complete-game performance.

  • Vandals top Shells, lose to SCC...

    After trailing 4-3 after two innings, Vandalia scored four runs in the next three innings to defeat Roxana, 7-5, in a road game on Tuesday.
    Garett McNary was 2-for-3 with three RBI’s and two runs scored, and Nathan Casey and Caleb Slater each added two hits to the Vandals’ offensive attack.
    Garett Austin got the win, allowing five runs and six hits, striking out four and walking one in six innings of work.
    Matthew Wells struck out three in the final inning to record a save.

    Zane Steele again took first place in the pole vault and Dylan Garrett set a new school record in the 200-meter dash as the Vandalia track teams competed in the South Central Conference meet on Tuesday at Litchfield.

    Bryton Pruett and Caleb Atwood each went 3-for-5 and Nate Philpot gave up just two hits over five innings as Brownstown/St. Elmo defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 10-4, on Tuesday.

  • Lady Cougars pick up three wins...

    South Central fought off a seventh-inning comeback in defeating Altamont, 11-7, on Monday in the National Trail Conference Tournament in Effingham.
    Both teams scored three runs in the first inning, then South Central scored two runs in the third, five more in the sixth and one in the seventh.
    With a 5-3 lead in the top of the sixth, the Lady Cougars sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring five runs on four singles, with a bases-loaded double by Kayli Swift scoring three of those runs.

  • Matheny tosses one-hitter for...

    South Central scored in five of seven innings and Ryan Matheny tossed a one-hitter in the Cougars’ 10-4 win on Friday.
    South Central scored two runs in the first inning, single runs in the second and third innings, and added five runs in the fourth to secure the win.
    Ryan McCown was 2-for-3 and DJ Roberts was 2-for-4 with a double for South Central. Aaron Patten drove in three runs for the Cougars.
    Matheny struck out four and walked two in four innings.
