    ROBINSON – Will the fourth time be the charm for the Vandals?

    Vandalia has advanced to the dual team state tournament for the fourth straight year and will look to get out of the first round for the first time since 2007 when it meets Litchfield in the state quarterfinals on Saturday after blowing out Murphysboro, 59-6, on Tuesday at the Robinson Sectional.

    The state dual will begin at 9 a.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, with the winner meeting either Plano or Mercer County in the 2 p.m. semifinals.

    CARLINVILLE - The Vandals were unable to win their final regular season game of the season, falling at Carlinville, 69-63, on Friday in South Central Conference action.

    Vandalia closes the regular season by going 1-5 in the final six games, but has the No. 2 seed in the Hillsboro Regional. The Vandals will face either Hillsboro or Litchfield next Wednesday at about 7:30 p.m.

    Junior Tyler Dagen is the only Vandal wrestler to make the consolation bracket at the Illinois High School Association individual state wrestling tournament.

    His first-round opponent, Brandon Lizer of Dakota, was victorious in the championship quarterfinals, and according to tournament criteria, a consolation bracket qualifier is a wrestler who is beaten by a championship bracket wrestler who advance the semifinals.

    CHAMPAIGN - The Vandals struggled offensively in dropping all four preliminary bouts at the individual state wrestling tournament.

    Battling at Assembly Hall on the campus of the University of Illinois on Thursday, none of the Vandals who qualified for the event were able to come away with a victory, and only one of them ever had a lead.

    The event began on Thursday, and individuals participating are: Chaston Womack (106), Dalton Blankenship (138), Tyler Dagen (145) and Zach Jackson (160).

    VANDALIA – One Vandal wrestler in each grade level advanced to the individual state tournament at Saturday’s Vandalia Sectional.

    But for two others, finishing one match from a qualifying position left them in heartbreak.

    Freshman Chaston Womack (106) and sophomore Dalton Blankenship (138) earned individual sectional championships, while senior Zach Jackson (160) placed third and junior Tyler Dagen (145) took fourth to advance to the state tournament.
