  • Two Vandals SCC all-conference

    Two Vandals were named to this year’s South Central Conference all-conference boys basketball teams.
    Nathan Casey of Vandalia was named to the first team, and teammate Blake Morrison was named to the second team.
    First team – Nathan Casey, Vandalia; Caden Heyen and Ben Lowis, Southwestern; Chad Stearns, Greenville; and Kaiden White, Hillsboro.
    Second team – Blake Morrison, Vandalia; Justin Bailey, Southwestern; Jacob Beeson, Pana; Brady Kinder, Staunton; Brock Nelson, Greenville; and Dale Paden of Hillsboro.

    Eleven members of this year's Vandalia wrestling team have been named to the South Central Conference all-conference team, eight receiving first team honors.
    The South Central first team included:
    • 106 pounds – Jarek Wehrle, Vandalia
    • 113 pounds – Dakota Gasaway, Vandalia
    • 120 pounds – Will Carlile, Litchfield.
    • 126 pounds – Tanner Swain, Vandalia.
    • 132 pounds – Zack Stephenson, Vandalia.

  • No. 2 in the state

    Vandalia’s wrestlers completed one of the best seasons in the history of the program, and the school, by finishing as one of the top two teams in the state.

  • Back in the quarterfinals

    Vandalia’s wrestlers recorded nine pins in defeating Murphysboro and advancing the state tournament quarterfinals for the 20th time in program history on Tuesday at Benton.

  • JH Volleyball

    Vandalia Junior High School’s eighth-graders improved to 15-3 on the season with a 25-9, 25-7 win over Greenville on Tuesday night.
    The seventh-graders also beat Greenville, 21-25, 25-18, 25-9.

    Last Thursday, Vandalia’s seventh-graders defeated Litchfield, 25-11, 25-15, to improve to 6-8 on the year.
    The VJHS eighth-graders improved to 14-3 with a 25-10, 25-5 win over Litchfield.

    Patoka’s junior high squad fell to South Central in three games, 21-25, 25-18, 16-25 last Wednesday.

  • Vandals season ends Tuesday

    In a rematch of a three-point contest at the Vandalia Holiday Tournament, Shelbyville edged Vandalia by the same margin on Tuesday to advance to the championship game of the Vandalia Regional on Friday.

    Four of the six Vandalia wrestlers advancing the IHSA Individual State Tournament over the weekend brought home medals.

  • Vandals will face IC Catholic

    With the sectional win over Murphysboro over on Tuesday night, Vandalia returns to the state quarterfinals for the 20th time.
    In the first round, at 9 a.m. at Grossinger Motors Arena (formerly U.S. Cellular Coliseum) in Bloomington, the Vandals will square off against Elmhurst (IC Catholic), a 57-21 winner over Lansing (Illiana Christian) on Tuesday at the Elmhurst Sectional.
    The winner of that match is assured a trophy, with the semifinals set for 2 p.m. and the finals set for 6 p.m.
