    Vandalia’s wrestlers recorded nine pins in defeating Murphysboro and advancing the state tournament quarterfinals for the 20th time in program history on Tuesday at Benton.

    Vandalia Junior High School’s eighth-graders improved to 15-3 on the season with a 25-9, 25-7 win over Greenville on Tuesday night.
    The seventh-graders also beat Greenville, 21-25, 25-18, 25-9.

    Last Thursday, Vandalia’s seventh-graders defeated Litchfield, 25-11, 25-15, to improve to 6-8 on the year.
    The VJHS eighth-graders improved to 14-3 with a 25-10, 25-5 win over Litchfield.

    Patoka’s junior high squad fell to South Central in three games, 21-25, 25-18, 16-25 last Wednesday.

    In a rematch of a three-point contest at the Vandalia Holiday Tournament, Shelbyville edged Vandalia by the same margin on Tuesday to advance to the championship game of the Vandalia Regional on Friday.

  • Vandals will face IC Catholic

    With the sectional win over Murphysboro over on Tuesday night, Vandalia returns to the state quarterfinals for the 20th time.
    In the first round, at 9 a.m. at Grossinger Motors Arena (formerly U.S. Cellular Coliseum) in Bloomington, the Vandals will square off against Elmhurst (IC Catholic), a 57-21 winner over Lansing (Illiana Christian) on Tuesday at the Elmhurst Sectional.
    The winner of that match is assured a trophy, with the semifinals set for 2 p.m. and the finals set for 6 p.m.

  • Four Vandal Gridders Going On To...

    Four members of the record-setting Vandalia Community High School 2017 football squad signed letters of intent to continue playing football.

    Marcus Zimmerman signed to play at McKendree College in Lebanon, Ethan Bayles signed to play at Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa, and Chandler Boyd and Dylan Garrett signed with Eureka College in Eureka. They were members of the first VCHS fooatball team to advance to the third round of the state playoffs, defeating Fairfield and rival Greenville in the first two rounds.
