    Vandalia’s wrestlers have picked up six more wins in the past week, and while he’s pleased with the wins, coach Jason Clay still is focused on what’s ahead.

    The Lady Vandals outscored Litchfield 26-18 in the second half on Monday, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Lady Panthers’ 17-point first-half edge.

    The higher seeded teams were winners on the first night of the 59th St. Elmo Holiday Tournament.
    In the tournament opener, top-seeded Cumberland defeated the No. 8 seed Ramsey, 65-47.
    In the nitecap, No. 4 Mulberry Grove edged No. 5 seed Windsor/Stew-Stras, 45-40.
    The tournament continued on Wednesday night, with No. 2 Vandalia facing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6:15 p.m. and the host team, No. 3 St. Elmo/Brownstown meeting up with No. 6 Patoka at about 7:45 p.m.

  • South Central edges Eagles in OT...

    South Central outscored St. Elmo/Brownstown by 13 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, then won with a 12-7 scoring edge in overtime to win, 59-54, on Tuesday.
    The Eagles were up 18-12 at halftime, then jumped out to a 35-22 lead after three quarters before the Cougars rallied in the fourth quarter, scoring 25 points to SEB’s 12.
    South Central’s Logan Lotz led all scorers with 29 points, including 15 of 17 from the free-throw line, and Keenin Willshire added 11 for the Cougars.

  • Cumberland is top seed for St....

    Cumberland is the top seed for the 59th annual St. Elmo Holiday Tournament.
    The tournament is being held from Tuesday, Dec. 11, through Saturday, Dec. 15.
    The seeds for the tournament are: #1, Cumberland; #2, Vandalia; #3, St. Elmo/Brownstown; #4, Mulberry Grove; #5, Windsor/Stew-Stras; #6, Patoka; #7, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City; and #8, Ramsey.
    The schedule is:
    • Tuesday, Dec. 11 – Cumberland vs. Ramsey, 6:15 p.m.; and Mulberry Grove vs. WSS, 7:45 p.m.

  • Lady Vandals go 1-1 early this...

    Four Lady Vandals scored in double figures in a 60-38 win over Ramsey on Tuesday night.
    Megan Kern led the Lady Vandals with 16 points, Bailey Stewart chipped in 14, and Lanee McNary and Katlyn McKinney had 11 and 10, respectively.
    Vandalia led 14-9 after one quarter and were up 30-12 at halftime, sealing the win with a 19-5 scoring edge in the third quarter. Ramsey outscored the Lady Vandals 21-11 in the final quarter.

    Pins were the difference as the Vandalia wrestlers opened their season with a loss to Belleville West, 42-35, on Tuesday at home.
