    After a slow, but successful start, Vandalia’s wrestlers piled up win after win in securing the team’s 10th consecutive trip to the state dual team finals.

    • 106 pounds, Jarek Wehrle – Won by fall over Gage Lopez of Auburn, 1:09; lost to Joel Mylin of Aurora Catholic; won by fall over Julian Decker of Wilmington in second round of wrestlebacks, 3:23; won by decision, 7-5, over Jaxson Roberts of Herscher in third round of wrestlebacks; lost by fall to Billy Tay of Ridgview, 0:59, in fourth round of wrestlebacks; lost by decision, 2-1, to Matthew Minick of Belleville Althoff – SIXTH PLACE.

    Vandalia’s eighth-grade boys basketball team is No. 4 in the state.

  • Ferguson wins bowling regional

    Madison Ferguson of Vandalia won the IHSA Girls Bowling Regional on Saturday at Collinsville, and she will be joined at the sectional tournament by teammate Aurora Richardson.

  • No. 4 Vandals to face A-J

    Vandalia’s wrestlers will face Anna-Jonesboro at 6 p.m. next Tuesday in the VCHS gym for a chance to return to the dual team state tournament.
    Vandalia will also host Monticello and Mt. Carmel in the other matchup that evening.
    Vandalia enters the match ranked No. 4 in Class 1A by both Illinois Matmen and Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association.
    The Vandals are the only ranked team at the Vandalia Sectional.

    The following Vandalia wrestlers placed in the top three at the Carlyle Regional and advance to the IHSA Carterville Sectional this Friday and Saturday, with regional champions in bold type:
    • 106 pounds – Jarek Wehrle, first.
    • 120 pounds – Cutter Prater, second.
    • 126 pounds – Matthew Hobler, second.
    • 132 pounds – Ryan Kaiser, third.
    • 138 pounds – Zack Stephenson, second.
    • 145 pounds – Dawson McKinney, second.

    Eleven Vandals placed and all 14 scored points as the Vandalia wrestled team won the school’s 25th consecutive regional title on Saturday in Carlyle.
