  • Tennis team takes second at Highland

    On Saturday, a freshmen doubles team placed first to lead the Lady Vandals to a second-place finish at the Highland Doubles Tournament.

    Karlie Bright and Makayla Tinker won No. 5 doubles, and two other teams placed second to help Vandalia score 13 team points to fall into second place.

    Centralia (19) was the winner, while Hillsboro (nine) took third. Bright and Tinker’s win against Centralia’s Molly Hutson and Sruti Swesh was the Orphan Annies' only loss in the tournament.

  • Eagles beat Warriors in decisive EIC game

    PATOKA – In the biggest game on both teams’ Egyptian-Illini Conference schedule, offense was hard to come by for Patoka and St. Elmo, as each team’s ace took the hill last Thursday.

    St. Elmo senior Connor Beasley and Patoka junior Clinton Hood combined for 17 strikeouts, but it was the Eagles who took advantage of its limited offensive opportunities to take a 3-2 win and improve to 3-0 in conference play.

  • Prep Roundup (Sept. 13)

    Warriors now 4-1 in EIC play
    Patoka’s baseball team has positioned itself well for the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament by winning another conference game on Tuesday, beating Beecher City, 6-1.

    Senior Jake Orrell (1-0) earned the win, and Clinton Hood pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to secure the win. They allowed just three hits in the game.

    The Vandalia soccer team got 26 saves from Colin Ledbetter in losses to Litchfield (13-0) on Monday and to Hillsboro (6-1) on Tuesday. Jussi Craycroft scored against the Hilltoppers.

  • Old Capitol Classic starts next Tuesday

    The Jr. High girls basketball season kicks off at the beginning of next week with the Old Capitol Classic.

    Games in the annual tournament will begin at 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday at the Vandalia junior high and elementary schools.

    Local teams in the tournament include Vandalia, Brownstown and Mulberry Grove.
