  • Post 95's season ends in division tourney

After being thrown into the mix against the toughest Jr. Legion teams in the region, it wasn’t a huge shock that Vandalia lost both of its games in the division tournament, but an upset win or two wouldn’t have been that surprising either.

Granted an automatic berth to the tournament because it was hosted in Vandalia, Post 95 had trouble finding an offensive rhythm, falling to Belleville, 11-1, on Saturday and to Altamont, 8-3, on Sunday.

  • Montgomery picks Fontbonne

He is the second player from his class to sign with an NCAA Division III school in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, joining Dathan Berning, who recently signed with Greenville College.

  • The Freight takes 3rd in state tourney

The Freight of Vandalia came out of retirement and showed little rust in placing third at the Illinois Amateur Softball Association wooden bat state fast-pitch softball tournament this past weekend.

Vandalia opened the tournament, which was held in Casey, last Friday night, with a loss to eventual runners-up, the Belleville Stallions.

But from there, the Freight went on a streak none of them likely imagined.

In the first game on Saturday morning, Vandalia beat Altamont, advancing to a game at 3 p.m.
