    Museum program is on Sunday, Jan. 13

    The third of the Fayette County Museum's Season of Events will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, in the Vandalia First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
    Dennis A. Stroughmatt of Albion will play traditional music on the fiddle and relate the French history in Illinois and Missouri. This lively medley of music, language, stories and culture – once secreted away in the Missouri Ozarks and other Midwestern French river towns – now has a voice in the modern world.

    Seven out-of-area teams played in the Vandalia Holiday Tournament, and the following are box scores from games that did not feature a team from Fayette County.


    No. 7 Altamont outscored top-seeded Flora, 30-17, in the middle two quarters to come away with a win in the third-place game on Saturday.

    Derek Jahraus led three Indian scorers in double-figures with 15 points, which helped counteract a double-double from Flora’s Ethan Leib, who had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

    • Jerry L. Karnes, 31, 410 S. College St., Brownstown, was arrested on Dec. 31 on a charge of theft of up to $500 and an alleged probation violation. Bond was $10,000.
    • Trevor J. Alstat, 19, 1229 W. Jefferson St., Vandalia, was arrested on Dec. 31 on a charge of possession of up to 30 grams of cannabis. Bond was $1,000.
    • A 17-year-old youth was arrested on Dec. 31 on charges of possession of drug equipment and possession of drug paraphernalia. The youth was released on a notice to appear in court.

  • South Central girls winless at Dieterich

    The Lady Cougars are still searching for their first win of the season after going 0-4 at the Dieterich Holiday Tournament.

    Short-handed throughout the event due to several players being out with illness, South Central (0-15) battled despite some lopsided results, according to coach Gary Kapper.

    St. Elmo High School will add several members and teams to its Athletic Wall of Fame next Friday between the JV and varsity games.
