    A farmer invests in a bull with a good bloodline. He advertises to his neighbors that – for a fee – the bull is available for breeding purposes.
    Down in Wilberton Township, Mr. Schaefer bought a bull. His neighbor’s fence just happened to collapse and, wouldn’t you know it, the next crop of calves had the unmistakable markings of Mr. Schaefer’s bull.

  • Loogootee man dies in wreck

    A Fayette County man died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident late Monday afternoon.
    According to the Illinois State Police, Jay R. McConkey, 49, of Loogootee, was driving a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck on County Road 1500 North, about one mile east of St. James, when the vehicle left the roadway on the right.
    The state police said that the truck traveling along the right ditch for several hundred feet, then crossed the roadway to the left and went into a field, overturning several times.

  • Vandals trounce Aces on the road

    MULBERRY GROVE – Senior Michael Wells struck out seven, and Jake Bowen broke open the game with a fourth-inning triple on Tuesday as the Vandals run-ruled Mulberry Grove in five innings.

    Wells allowed just five Aces to reach base in his four innings of work, and Bowen’s two-run triple helped the Vandals to an 11-0 victory.

    “Michael was solid today,” said Vandals coach Luke Hohlt. “He will have to be the guy who comes in and throws strikes for us.
