  • Eason stepping down as police chief

    The city of Vandalia has announced that Police Chief Larry Eason has asked that he not be reappointed to the post of chief when his current contract expires on May 6.

    Eason has cited medical issues as his reason for not seeking reappointment by the mayor and city council.

    Gottman said, "Larry came to work for the city in an interim capacity in March of 2007 and took over the position full-time in July of the same year.

  • Kaskaskia College

    QuickBooks Pro workshop
    The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Kaskaskia College will hold a workshop on QuickBooks Pro bookkeeping software April 15, 17, 22 and 24, from noon-4 p.m. at the Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus.
    The training consists of four, four-hour sessions and is invaluable to business owners using or wanting to become acquainted with the newest QuickBooks software.
    Pre-registration is required and the fee is $80. Call or email for a registration form that must be returned one week prior to the beginning of the workshop.

    'The Patriarchs' series begins tonight

    Brownstown First Christian Church will launch a 10-week teaching series on "The Patriarchs: Encountering the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."
    Developed by Beth Moore, the study focuses on Genesis 12-50. It will be taught by Faye Watson.
    The series starts at 7 p.m. tonight.
