  • Youth fishing tournament is June 8

    The Vandalia Sport Fishing  and Conservation Club will host a free youth fishing tournament on June 8 at the Lions Club Pavilion.

    Youth ages 5-15 may enter the tournament, and will be fishing for bluegill and crappie from 10 a.m.-noon.

    Any type of bait can be used, and all participants will fish off of the bank.

    Prizes will be awarded in each class, with the youth divided into ages 5-10, and ages 11-15.

    In the event of bad weather, the Relay will be held at the Family YMCA of Fayette County on Rock Island Avenue in Vandalia.

    The Little Wren Family Busy
    The little wren couple are back and seem very busy. It is always interesting to watch them and see where they will build their nest every year, as they have built them in the most unlikely and sometimes rather hazardous locations.
    This year, their address seems to be “in a fold of a tarp covering lumber.”

  • Winner of Disney Prize

    Angel Kopp was the winner of the $5,000 Disney prize given away in a fundraiser held by the Vandalia Band Boosters.

  • 'Summer Lunches for Kids' program to provide free meals June 3-Aug. 25

    Once again this summer, school-age children in Fayette County will be able to get a free lunch one or two days per week through a program called "Summer Lunches for Kids."
    The mission of the effort is "to provide children with a free and nutitious lunch during the summer months when they are not in school."
    Meals will be available from 11-11:30 a.m.  every Monday and Thursday, beginning June 3 and continuing through Aug. 15, in Vandalia, Shobonier and Vera.

    Bethel Baptist VBS to be held June 3-7

    Bethel Baptist Church will be holding its Vacation Bible School from June 3-7, from 6-8:30 p.m. nightly. Parent night is will be Saturday, June 8, at 6 p.m.
    The theme for this year's VBS is "Colossal Coaster World."
    Bethel Baptist Church is located seven miles northwest of Vandalia on Ill. Route 185. For more information, call the church at 326-7451.
