  • Fayette County HCE holds Get Acquainted Day

    The Fayette County Home and Community Education organization held its annual Get-Acquainted Day fundraiser on April 11 at the Golden Years building in Brownstown.

    The event includes a potluck brunch, announcements of coming events and presentations of various certificates of achievement by the club and individuals, awarded by the IAHCE   officers.

  • Volunteers, vendors sought for Bicentennial

    The city of Vandalia is less than two months away from celebrating its 200th Bicentennial Celebration, with events scheduled for June 13-16.
    Plans have been finalized for the celebration and the Bicentennial Board is now seeking volunteers from the community to help during the celebration.
    There is a need for approximately 120 volunteers of all ages.  Needs range from helping at the General Store all the way to heavy lifting.

  • Acrylic art painting class Saturday

    An acrylic art painting class is being held this Saturday in Vandalia.
    The class will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center, 616 W. Jackson St.
    The cost is $25, and the class teacher, Jan Mason, is encouraging pre-registration, to ensure that she has enough materials for those in the class.

    ✔ The Vandalia Unit Teachers' Association, Vandalia School District, Regional Office of Education No. 3 and Illinois Education Association-Region 5 are hosting a free showing of the documentary, "The Heroin Project," at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym. "The Heroin Project" is a 50-minute documentary produced by Ashley Seering and Cory Byers to shed light on the heroin epidemic right here in our own backyard.  Following the film there will be a Q & A session with city and county law enforcement and health officials.

    • Jeremy W. Buie, 31, 415 W. Cumberland Road, St. Elmo, was arrested on April 30 for contempt of court. Bond was $300 cash.
    • Nichole M. Smith, 34, 307 N. Chestnut, St. Elmo, was arrested on April 29 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $2,500.
    • Courtney R. Sellers, 25, Neoga, was arrested on April 29 on a charge of methamphetamine possession. Bond was $30,000.
