  • Visiting Professor

    Steven C. Ricke, director of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Center for Food Safety, has been named a visiting professor (international scholar) at Kyung Hee University in Suwon, South Korea.
    Ricke, the son of Clarence and Beverly Ricke of rural Bingham, also holds the Donald (Buddy) Wray chair in Food Safety and is a professor in the university’s Department of Food Science.
    The institute at Kyung Hee University has established its own food safety research center, which is staffed with Korean scientists.

  • Evans Library adds tutorials for computers, Internet

    Now it’s easier than ever to learn computer and Internet basics from the convenience of your home, library or any Internet-enabled computer.
    This resource is now available free to patrons of Evans Public Library and can be accessed at Evans Public Library or by going to the library website, www.epl.lib.il.us.
    Patrons can take advantage of 18 beginner-level tutorials that cover computer and Internet basics, including using email, web browsing and social networking.

    The VCHS Class of 1968 gathered in Vandalia over the weekend of June 28-30, with get-togethers held for those arriving early.

  • KC accepting Honors Program applications

    Kaskaskia College is still accepting applications for the fall 2013 Honors Program. This program recognizes students who have demonstrated, or who evidence the potential for, consistent academic excellence.
    Students who are accepted into the Honors Program will receive: special course offerings; travel study opportunities; $150 scholarship per semester towards books and supplies in the KC Bookstore; special recognition at graduation; and personalized transfer assistance.

  • KC cosmetology students in Wilkerson competition

    The Annual Betty Wilkerson Memorial Student Competition was recently held at Kaskaskia College.

    The student cosmetology competition is held once a year, and the students compete against other students at their own level.
    This competition consists of three categories: total fashion, hair design and makeup. Students also participated in nail design.

    The distribution is at First Presbyterian Church, 1221 W. Fillmore St., Vandalia. Parents or other adults must accompany students, and they are to go to the north door of the church.

  • New truck driver training sessions at KC are set

    Kaskaskia College has announced that new sessions of courses in the truck driver training session are scheduled to begin Aug. 19 and Sept. 16 in Centralia.
    KC has a 100-percent employment rate for those who complete the program, which is is a certificate program designed for an individual with no commercial driving experience.
