  • Summer band invite given

    Local musicians are being invited to participate in the inaugural Vandalia Community Summer Band.
    The band will rehearse from 6-7:30 p.m. the week of Monday, June 18.
    The week will conclude with an outdoor performance on the lawn of the Vandalia Statehouse on Friday, June 22. There is no charge for admission, and attendees are encouraged to take lawn chairs or blankets.

  • Two given Epplin scholarship

    Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation has announced that Saidee Bushur and Hannah Porter have been named recipients of the 2018 Thomas J. Epplin Health Profession Scholarship.
    Bushur is a 2018 graduate of St. Anthony High School. She plans to attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to obtain a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
    Porter is a 2018 graduate of Pinckneyville High School. In the fall, she will attend Southeast Missouri State University and major in nursing with plans to obtain a master of science degree in nursing.

    The following students were named to the dean’s list for Greenville University for the spring semester:

    Alexandria Sasse of Vandalia was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo.

  • KC will offer CNA sessions this fall

    Kaskaskia College will offer three sessions of the certified nurse sssistant class at the main campus beginning in August and October 2018.
    A day class will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8 a.m.-3:15 p.m., Aug. 13-Oct. 5. The registration number is NAST 160 MC01D.
    Another day class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Aug. 14-Nov. 29. The registration number is NAST 160 MC02D.
    A third day class will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8 a.m.-3:15 p.m., Oct. 8-Dec. 10. The registration number is NAST 160 MC88D.

    Ariabella Rey Greenwood

    Jeffrey Allen and Jo Lynne Greewood of Flora are the parents of a girl born at 3:39 a.m. on May 13, 2018, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
    Ariabella Rey weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 20 inches long.
    She has a brother, Quenton Alexander, age 9, and a sister, Jaqueline Paige, age 4.
    Maternal grandparents are Mary and Tony Schwarm of Sullivan, Mo., formerly of Vandalia; and paternal grandparents are Larry and Sharon Greenwood of Flora.
