  • Operation Christmas Child

    Volunteers loaded up 1,511 boxes for Operation Christmas Child at First United Methodist Church on Monday morning.

    Volunteers pictured are Al McDowell, Frank Roeder, Kent Merry, Darrell Casey, Gary Doolin, Bud  and Jill Zimmer, Wolf and Jeanne Schlicht, Larry and Linda Williams, and Dr. Roger Grimmett. The boxes contain toys, hygiene items and school supplies for needy children. The goal was 1,200 boxes.

  • Evergreen Outreach Nov. 24

    Chilly, gray days seem much brighter with holiday happenings. Nowhere are there more inspired people than our Evergreen Outreach volunteers and guests, who now are anticipating the upcoming day of Thanksgiving.
    Our holiday program began with Bernie Ray at the piano. Some of her selections included: "Beautiful Ohio," "Now is the Hour," "Pearly Shells," "Harbor Lights" and "Release Me."

  • Woman's Club Winner

    The winner of the GFWC Vandalia Woman's Club drawing, Candy Sivia, receives a County Market gift certificate from club member Peg Dees. The club uses the funds raised through this and other activities for local philanthropic projects.

  • Cages Donates to Relay for Life

    Dave King (left) and David Paulding (right) of Cages in Vandalia present to Dave Rickman of Fayette County Relay for Life a donation of $919.

    The donation represented the proceeds from Cages' third annual Labor Day Bike Show.

  • Bowlers Make Donation

    Marie Davis of Vandalia and Larry Earnest, owner of Vandalia Bowl, held a nine-pin, no-tap tournament on Oct. 23 to raise funds for digital mammography equipment at Fayette County Hospital.

    The organizers raised $438 for the equipment, and (above) they presented the proceeds to Marci Barth, chief nursing officer at the hospital. Winning the tournament was the team of Marie Davis, Jeanette Spence, Sam Lovall and Debbie Lovall. Finishing second was the team of Keith and Fran Cole, John Swain and Curt Haas.

    Samantha Jo Conrath and Matthew Tyler Adermann, both of Taylorville, were joined in marriage at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, in a double-ring ceremony at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Peter Kolb officiating.
