  • KC registration under way

    Registration for classes at the KC Vandalia Campus for the 2012 spring semester is now in progress. Most spring classes will begin the week of Jan. 9.

  • Vandalia Police Reports Dec. 1, 2011

    Nov. 22
    • 11:37 a.m. – Police responded to a report of a shopping cart hitting a vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart.
    • 7:15 p.m. – Police received a report of vandalism to a vehicle at 402 W. Jackson St.
    • One warning ticket was issued for speeding and one ticket was issued for disobeying a stop sign.
    Nov. 23
    • 6:14 p.m. – Police received a report of failure to pay for gas at Circle K on Gallatin Street.

  • Girls Jr. Pro Basketball

    Vandalia girls basketball coach Michelle McNary has been running a Jr. Pro program, and the participants will show off their skills between the JV and varsity games on Saturday. The JV game begins at 1 p.m.

  • Helping Kids with Cancer

    Sew Liberty recently hosted a "sew-in," making pillowcases for kids with cancer. Using colorful fabric donated to the cause, volunteers made 22 pillowcases.

    Four women participated in the event, including the owner of Sew Liberty, Jennifer Flowers, and her mother, Kim Pope, from Colorado Springs. Also participating were Viola Blankenship and Nancy Shipman. The pillowcases will be given to hospitals for children who are fighting cancer.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log-Dec. 1, 2011

    • Jarod S. Parker, 23, 300 E. Monroe St., Farina, turned himself in on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was $4,000.
    • Susan E. Eades, 50, Bloomington, turned herself in on a warrant for failure to appear in Piatt County court. Bond was $3,000.
    • Sherri M. Connor, 42, 319 S. College Ave., Brownstown, was arrested on Nov. 27 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $250 cash.

  • Vandalia goes to 2-0 with win at DuQuoin Tourney

    DUQUOIN – Watching the concentration Vandalia players were giving to free throws in the final three minutes of a win against Cairo on Monday, no one would guess the Vandals were leading by 20 points.

    For the first 37 minutes of the game, however, the Vandals had shot just 53.5 percent from the free-throw line, and until that point, they had collectively made less than 60 percent of the season’s attempts.

  • Lady Vandals open season with two road wins at South Central and Marquette

    The Lady Vandals opened the season with a pair of road wins, getting by both South Central and Marquette Catholic in the past 10 days.

    "We're doing about what I expected to do," said coach Michelle McNary. "Overall, I'm pleased, and I'm excited about Saturday to see what we can do against Piasa."
