    Ed and Mona Durbin of rural Brownstown celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, Dec. 13.

    Ed is the son of Billy and Lois Durbin of St. Elmo, and Mona is the daughter of Willie and Helen Bergmann of Farina. They are the parents of two children, Zach and Megan Durbin.

    Neil and Melinda Jolliff will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 4-6 p.m. this Friday at the Patoka Christian Church.

    Jacqueline Shimmin of Palatine and Charles Forbes of Vandalia were united in marriage in a ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 26, 2011, at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Glenview, with the Revs. Manny Rocha and Dan Rush officiating.

    Dec. 13
    • Officers responded to a two-vehicle accident at Kennedy Boulevard and Veterans Avenue. According to the report, a vehicle driven by Edward A. Opfer, 81, of Shobonier, turned left in front of a vehicle driven by Lauren R. Gill, 72, of Brownstown, striking the side of Gill’s vehicle. Opfer was ticketed for failure to yield turning left.
    Dec. 21
    • Police received a report at 11:49 a.m. of the theft of an iPod and purse from a vehicle in the 1400 block of Shelley Drive that was unlocked.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log

    • Joseph S. Reynolds, 34, RR 1, St. Peter, was arrested on Dec. 27 on charges of possession of a controlled substance, criminal damage to property less than $300, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Bond was $1,000.
    • Timothy L. Lytle, 31, St. Louis, Mo., was arrested on Dec. 26 on charges of driving while his license is suspended and speeding, and for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving while his license is suspended. Bond was $4,000.

    Evening guests of the Harpsters were: Mary Harpster of St. Peter, Ben, Amanda, Madison and Dru Eller of Jackson, Mo., Mitch and Gretchen Harpster of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Rollie and Trieva Henson of St. Peter.

    The Critters are Ready for Winter…
    …the outdoor critters anyway, and with the light snow on the ground this morning (Tuesday), making the woods look pretty, but cold, it is a good thing their Creator provides for them.
    Of course, they have their little barn, and when there is snow or rain in the picture, Smoky pretty much stays in it. He doesn’t like to get his beautiful ears wet.
