    Though the game stats for the Vandalia Vandals game with South Central on April 11 had Kyle Guffey listed as the loser, the loser of record was Garrett Austin, who started the seventh inning in relief.
    Guffey was the starter in that game, allowing three runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking one.

  • Garrett tosses 1-hitter for SC

    Sydnee Garrett hurled a one-hitter as South Central defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown, 4-0, in girls softball action last Friday at Webster Field in Kinmundy.
    The Lady Cougars broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth and added two more in the seventh.
    South Central – Lee-single, run, RBI; Reid-single, RBI; Shumate-2 singles; Johnston-run; Swift-single, run; Geiler-triple run.
    The win improved the Lady Cougars to 3-4 in National Trail play and 6-4 overall.

    Kaitlyn Mills clubbed two home runs and was the winning pitcher as the Lady Vandals avenged a loss to Pana over the weekend with a 9-6 win at home on Monday.

    Matthew Wells tossed a four-hitter as Vandalia topped Carlinville, 10-0, in a five-inning contest at Vandalia Mutual Field on Tuesday.

  • City OKs, supports Eagle badge project

    The Vandalia City Council not only OK’d a Eagle badge project for a local Boy Scout that will improve Vandalia’s Little Community Garden, it agreed to support that project.

  • Coroner withdraws from November election

    In the April activity report that Fayette County Coroner David Hejl submitted to the Fayette County Board, Hejil announced that he has withdrawn as a candidate for the two-year coroner term on the November ballot.
    Hejl said that after a coroner is elected in November, or appointed afterward if there are no one is elected, he would be willing to serve as a deputy coroner, as will the three other deputies serving under him.
