    Tuesday was a big day for Republicans in Fayette County.

  • Sales tax hike soundly defeated

    Vandalia voters overwhelmingly rejected a request from the city for a one-quarter percent tax increase.
    The city’s sales tax referendum failed in all 10 precincts in being rejected, 927-538.

  • Vandalia City Council approves new set of TIF guidelines

    APPLICATIONS
    • All will be reviewed by TIF Administrator to ensure all information is provided.
    Application is also reviewed by Building Official to ensure permits that may be required and/or variances.  This process could take up to 45 days.
    Will also include a site visit by TIF Administrator and Building Official prior to bringing to city council.
    Building Official will provide a report as to required permits and his opinion of project for committee to review.

  • Dustin Murray appointed to school board seat

    During a special meeting last Wednesday, the Vandalia Board of Education selected Dustin Murray to fill an open seat on the board.
    Murray was one of seven candidates for the seat that was vacated when Chris Palmer resigned after 14 years on the board.
    Palmer was president at the time of his resignation, and Vice President Matt Hall was moved to the president position. Last month, the board chose Connie Goldsmith as its new vice president.
    Murray will join the board during a special meeting at 6 p.m. this Thursday in the administration center.

    Vandalia’s unofficial kickoff to the holiday season is this Friday night and Saturday.
    Olde Tyme Christmas in Vandalia is from 3-9 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday
    As is tradition, the Friday schedule is highlighted by the lighting of the city Christmas tree at Seventh and Gallatin streets at 5 p.m., followed by the Vandalia Rotary Club’s Christmas Parade at 5:30 p.m.

    Thursday, November 8

    ✔ Evans Public Library's Homeschool Group meets from 1-2 p.m. at the library. Those interested in joining the group should contact Shawna Sprague at the library, 283-2824.
    ✔ The United Methodist Men at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia will hold their annual fish fry from 4:30-7 p.m. at the church. Donations will be accepted. The proceeds go to the organization's Coats and Shoes Program for Fayette County.
