  • Woman who dragged deputy is deemed fit to stand trial

    A Springfield woman who allegedly dragged a county sheriff’s deputy while fleeing from a traffic stop has been deemed fit to stand trial.
    Monroe McWard, the attorney for Adriana Brown, reported in court on Friday that Dr. Terry Killian, a forensic psychiatrist, had submitted a report after evaluating Brown.
    “It (Killian’s report) says she’s fit (for trial),” McWard told Fayette County Resident Circuit Judge Don Sheafor.

    SPRINGFIELD — Recreational marijuana use and possession will be legal in Illinois beginning Jan. 1, 2020, after Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a legalization bill into law Tuesday in Chicago.

    SPRINGFIELD – While marijuana consumption and possession will become legal for Illinois residents over 21 years of age starting Jan. 1, 2020, consumption in public places will still be prohibited and local governments will maintain control as to whether the industry can conduct business within their jurisdictions.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log

    • Justin A. Collins, 31, Benld, was arrested on June 24 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $25,000, and he was held for Madison County authorities.
    • Jason L. Bolyard, 44, 313 N. Fourth St., Vandalia, was arrested on June 24 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $7,500.
    • Desiree V. Miller, 26, Chicago, was arrested on June 23 on charges of driving while her license is suspended or revoked, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, no valid registration and speeding. Bond was $1,500.

  • Golden Circle Menus

    The Golden Circle Nutrition Program, located at 616 W. Jackson St., Vandalia provides meals in a comfortable setting to people 60 years and older and their spouses.
    There are no income guidelines or any type of restrictions besides the age limit.
    Meals are prepared by Deb’s Catering of Altamont and delivered fresh daily.
    The suggested donation is $3 for meals.

    A potluck dinner is at noon, with tea, lemonade and paper products being provided.

    The Herman Dothager family reunion will be held on July 4 at the Rogier Park pavilion in Vandalia, with lunch at noon.
