  • Ribbon-cutting on VCHS track on Friday afternoon

    A ribbon-cutting and the first races will be held at the finish line of the new track at Vandalia Community High School this Friday at 4 p.m.
    At the event, an unofficial 400-meter dash will be held for both boys and girls.

    The Brownstown Junior High seventh-grade girls basketball team last Wednesday won a sectional championship by defeating Oblong, 28-17, at the Class 7-2A sectional in Albion.

  • Big Buck

    Nathaniel Rittis (left) of Vandalia and Brian Brown of Augsburg killed a 12-point deer just south of Vandalia last Friday morning. The deer scored a 189 3/8.

  • Godberson gets lone win as Vandal wrestlers place fifth at Civic Memorial

    Senior Dayin Godberson was an individual champion, and the Vandalia wrestlers placed fifth, with 143 points, at the annual Civic Memorial Tournament on Saturday.
    Mattoon won the team title, with 223 points.
    Senior Levi Ulmer suffered a minor ankle injury in practice prior to the tournament, and he is expected to return to the mat for Thursday's home-opening dual meet against Hillsboro. That match begins at 6 p.m.
