  • Separate Chicago?

    About 100 people, most of them from Fayette County, attended a meeting held in Vandalia on Saturday to inform residents of the movement to separate Chicago from the rest of Illinois.

  • County looking to link to more secure network

    Fayette County is looking to tie into a computer networking line that runs between two local law enforcement agencies for cyber security reasons.
    Speaking for the county’s information technology vendor, Nathan Dothager, Assistant Fayette County State’s Attorney Brenda Mathis told county board members that Dothager is working on hooking up to the secured network that runs between the sheriff’s office and the Vandalia Police Department.

  • New state maps reflect technology

    SPRINGFIELD – Just in time for the state fair, the Illinois Department of Transportation is releasing the new Illinois Official Highway Map, featuring an updated look that reflects the Geographic Information System technology used to create it – a development that will significantly reduce production time of future editions. The map, available at the IDOT tent at the state fair starting Thursday, includes route updates, Quick Response (QR) codes for transportation-related websites and useful links to help you make the most of your travels throughout Illinois.

  • VCHS Hall of Fame nominations accepted through next Monday

    Nominations for the Vandalia Community High School Hall of Fame are being accepted through next Monday.
    Nomination forms are available on homepage of the school district’s website, www.vandals203.org, and completed electronically.
    Paper forms can be obtained at the high school office.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log

    • Kristen D. Angel, 22, 20141 N. 500 St., Vandalia, was arrested on Aug. 5 on a charge of driving while her license is suspended or revoked. Bond was $2,500.
    • Devon G. Anderson, 22, St. Louis, Mo., was arrested on Aug. 5 on a charge of unlawful use or possession of a weapon. No bond information was listed.
    • Savannah M. Long, 19, 1200 N. 175 St., Mulberry Grove, was arrested on Aug. 5 on charges of methamphetamine possession and driving while her license is suspended or revoked. No bond information was listed.
