  • School district gets more state funds

    In her first month as Vandalia’s
    superintendent of schools, Dr. Jennifer
    Garrison is seeing her lobbying efforts in
    recent years pay off.
    At Tuesday’s Vandalia Board of
    Education meeting on Tuesday, District
    Business Manager Lori Meseke reported
    that the district is receiving $546,000 in new
    funds from the state this year.
    Those new funds are arriving in six
    payments through the end of June, and are
    possible as a result of lobbying efforts by

  • National Drug Take Back Day is next Saturday

    National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 28, and the Vandalia Police Department will be distributing flyers reminding residents that old prescription drugs can be dropped off at the police station.
    A locked, slotted box in the station lobby is available for drop-off; drugs can be put in, but not taken out.
    Anyone unable to drop off drugs can call the National Road Interpretive Center in Vandalia, 283-9380, for pickup by a Vandalia Woman’s Club member between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. next Saturday.

    Two weeks after some

    Vandalia aldermen said they

    wanted to look at alternatives

    to Dennis Grubaugh’s $220,000

    plan to address the exterior wall

    on one of his buildings, they

    presented such an alternative.

    But Grubaugh said he doesn’t

    like it.
