  • Tools for School drive under way

Once again the Tools for School program, which provides free school supplies to students who need help in Fayette County only, is under way.
The first step is to receive donations from individuals, churches, businesses, clubs and others. Gifts of money enable the purchase of exactly what the teachers indicate their students need.
Those who wish to donate supplies, may contact First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia, 283-0927, to see what is needed.

The Fayette County Board voted last week to continue its agreement with the Fayette County Health Department for the county’s Emergency Management Agency coordinator.
This is the second year for that partnership, through which Kendra Craig serves as the EMA coordinator while continuing to work for the health department.
The agreement calls for the FCHD to obtain grant funding for the coordinator’s salary, and the county to reimburse the health department quarterly for one-fourth of the EMA grant.

  • Well assesses future school funding

Just before its last regular meeting of the fiscal year, the Vandalia Board of Education on Tuesday held a special meeting to approve an amended 2012-13 budget.
Such amendments, which are permitted under the Illinois School Code, allow districts to plug in unanticipated income or expenditures to produce a more accurate budget.
“Only a few line items were changed,” district Business Manager Lori Meseke told the board. “Revenues have come in as projected, but there will be a couple lines on the expense side that will change.”
