  • Herrick man arrested on bomb charges

    A Herrick man has been jailed since late last week, when he was arrested on bomb charges.
    Aaron C. Rhodes, 34, was arrested last Thursday on charges of possession of an explosive or incendiary device, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    The office of Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison then filed charges against Rhodes for the incident at his home.

    • St. James Lutheran Church will hold its annual chili supper from 4-7 p.m.
    • Vandalia Eagles Club will hold a soup supper at 5 p.m.
    • Vandalia Lions Club’s annual Halloween Parade is at 7 p.m. on Gallatin Street.
    • The Vandalia Swimming Pool staff’s open house at the former Washington School in the 300 block of South Eighth Street will be open after the parade, until 10:30 p.m.

  • Haunted house kicks off Halloween season

    The Halloween season in Vandalia officially gets underway this weekend with a new activity on the Halloween calendar.
    The staff of the Vandalia Municipal Swimming Pool will operate a haunted house at the former Washington School in the 300 block of South Eighth Street, with the proceeds going toward pool rehabilitation work.
    The haunted house will be open:
    • Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19 – 7-11 p.m.
    • Thursday, Oct. 24 – After the Vandalia Lions Club’s Halloween parade, until 10:30 p.m.
