  • CUB to analyze phone bills Wednesday

    Representatives of the Citizens Utility Board will be in Vandalia on Wednesday afternoon to analyze phone bills during a free clinic.

    The clinic will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center, 616 W. Jackson St.

    Residents should take their phone bills for a free, one-on-one consultation with a CUB expert to identify ways to cut costs. The clinic is sponsored by state Sen. Kyle McCarter (R-Lebanon).

  • Herrick man arrested on bomb charges

    A Herrick man has been jailed since late last week, when he was arrested on bomb charges.
    Aaron C. Rhodes, 34, was arrested last Thursday on charges of possession of an explosive or incendiary device, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    The office of Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison then filed charges against Rhodes for the incident at his home.

    • St. James Lutheran Church will hold its annual chili supper from 4-7 p.m.
    • Vandalia Eagles Club will hold a soup supper at 5 p.m.
    • Vandalia Lions Club’s annual Halloween Parade is at 7 p.m. on Gallatin Street.
    • The Vandalia Swimming Pool staff’s open house at the former Washington School in the 300 block of South Eighth Street will be open after the parade, until 10:30 p.m.
