• Tools for School fundraising under way

    Tools for School, a program for Fayette County in-need students to select free school supplies, is beginning its work for 2012 with a fundraising campaign.
    Last year, more than 605 school children, in kindergarten through junior college, were served by Tools for School.
    Monetary donations received from businesses, churches, organizations and individuals are used to purchase notebooks, paper, pens, crayons and other supplies included on Fayette County school supply lists.

  • Lake Land College presents Talented Student Awards

    Lake Land College in Mattoon has presented the Talented Student Award to 64 students in area communities.
    This award includes tuition waivers to high school graduates for their academic achievement and is for a maximum of two consecutive calendar years.
    The award recipients for 2012-13 include:
    • Bingham – Kimberly Casey, Ramsey High School.
    • Brownstown – Colten Hunter and Eddie Carson, Brownstown High School.

    The Kaskaskia College Physical Therapist Assistant Program (PTA) awarded its inaugural Outstanding Alumnus Award to two of the program graduates.

    Vandalia eighth-graders Haley Bigelow and Isaac Daiber were awarded the Vandalia Community Schools Foundation Scholarships.
