    Lake Land College
    A number of local residents are among the spring 2018 graduates at Lake Land College in Mattoon:
    • Bingham – James Koonce, certificate, paramedic services; and Kayla Koonce, certificate and associate’s degree in accounting.
    • Brownstown – Kyrstyn Fitch, associate’s degree, liberal arts; Samuel Miller, certificate, management; and Zeke Philpot, certificate in programmable logic controllers and associate’s degree in electronics engineering technology.

  • KC Vandalia Campus fall registration now under way

    Registration for classes at the KC Vandalia Campus for the 2018 fall semester is now in progress.
    The fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 13.
    Taking classes at the education center saves students travel time and reduces gas expenses.
    Some of the student services offered at the center include: placement testing; advising; registration; assistance with financial aid; and free tutoring.

  • SCHS grad photos available

    South Central High School graduation photos are now available for pick up at the unit office.
    Office hours at the unit office are: 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 8 a.m.-noon, Fridays.

  • KC signs agreement with SIUC for automotive technology

    At its monthly meeting in June, the Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees approved an articulation agreement with Southern Illinois University-Carbondale that would allow students who graduate from KC with an associate’s degree in automotive technology a smooth transition into SIU-C’s bachelor’s in automotive technology program.

  • MAPS has high scores in testing

    Mid-America Preparatory School in Herrick announced good news on tests scores.
    In grades K-9, 97 percent of the students met or exceeded standardized testing norms on the Iowa Assessments.
    This figure compares to 98 percent in 2016-17; 94 percent in 2015-16; 90 percent in 2014-15; 84 percent in 2013-14; and 80 percent in 2012-13.
    MAPS, a private Christian school in Herrick, is in its 11th year providing private education to students in Central Illinois.

    St. Louis University
    Kyle Bray of St. Peter was among the spring 2018 graduates at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., during commencement exercises on May 19 at Chaifetz Arena on the SLU campus.
    Bray, a 2014 graduate of South Central High School in Farina, graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting.

  • Vandalia FFA members attend state convention

    Members of the Vandalia FFA chapter attended the 90th annual Illinois State FFA Convention on June 12-14 along with more than 5,000 other FFA members, advisers and guests.

  • Fall openings in physical therapist at KC

    Kaskaskia College has openings remaining for the fall 2018 semester for its physical therapist assistant program, according to PTA Program Director Jane Herrmann.
    The application deadline has been extended to June 30.
    The PTA program at Kaskaskia College follows a hybrid curriculum model that requires four semesters of study with a short summer session of clinical work.
