  • Ribbon-Cutting at Little Caesars

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last week at Little Caesars Pizza, which is located at 1611 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia.

    The carry-out store, which opened in July, is operated by Joe and Lisa Wills, center, of Beecher City. The company is known for its $5 14-inch pizzas. The telephone number is 283-2300.

    The officers of the Vandalia Rotary Club for the 2013-14 year are pictured here.

    They are, from left, Steve Ainscough, president; John Ashdown, vice president; Rodes Hood, secretary; Tom McCarty, treasurer; and the Rev. Roger Grimmett, past president. The new officers took over at the beginning of the fiscal year on July 1.

    The Vandalia chamber held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Thursday at DC Auto Sports, a new automotive shop in Vandalia.

    Located at 105 N. Fifth St., the shop does general mechanical repair, suspension work, small engine repair, window tinting, custom accessory work and hydrographics. The owner is Devin Carlisle and the telephone number is 704-4087.

  • Kull Funeral Homes offer memorial trees

    Kull Funeral Homes of Altamont and St. Elmo have renewed their affiliation with the Lofty Oaks Association.
    Lofty Oaks is a New Hampshire-based organization dedicated to reforestation and conservation efforts in Illinois.
    The firm arranges to have a tree planted for each service that it performs in order to provide a living memorial in honor of the deceased and to renew the forest life of Illinois.
    The memorial trees are plantred in the spring and fall.

  • Vandalia Chamber has membership drive

    The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce is in the middle of a two-month membership drive. The effort to recruit new businesses began July 1 and will continue until the end of August.
    “Our main objective with this drive is to increase awareness of what the chamber can do for businesses and individuals within the community,” said Shannon Craycroft, executive director. “In doing that, we are hoping to increase our membership numbers. A larger membership base means a larger network of individuals working together and more member-to-member discounts.”

  • Green on Gallatin

    Several members of the Vandalia Rotary Club and Soroptimist International joined Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman (second from right) in a dedication ceremony for the replanted trees in downtown Vandalia.

    The Soroptimists have maintained the planters for several years, and the Rotarians have agreed to care for  the trees. The trees are Japanese Tree Lilacs, a hardy variety that has white blossoms in June or July.
