  • Fayette Faces this week are many faces, the members of Brownstown First Christian Church who gathered at the west outer edge of Brownstown on the afternoon of Sunday, Aug. 20, for a groundbreaking service for their new church building.

  • The Brownstown Holiday Open House returns this year, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. this Saturday in the Brownstown Elementary School cafeteria.

  • It is documented that on Oct. 25, 1901, a group of women in Ramsey, seeking to advance the knowledge of literature and promote the art of conversation, started a club that has endured as one of the longest standing women’s groups in Illinois.

  • Marriage
    Kent Clark and Jill Schilling were married on June 9 at Vevay Park in Casey. Kent is the son of Warren and Lucretia Schroeder, and Jill is the daughter of Joe and Jennifer Schilling. The couple resides in Charleston.
    Blood Drive
    Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont will hold an American Red Cross blood drive in their Parish Hall on Wednesday, June 27, from 3-7 p.m.

  • Hay is Baled – All is Well
    Just as finally seeing the farmers working in the fields in the spring, so does the sight of our hay baled up and safe after being cut and just laying helpless on the field after being beaten down by hard rains, hail or whatever.
    One of the prettiest calendars I remember seeing was simply a photograph of a field with its harvest of hay standing in rows of golden bales, with a beautiful blue sky decorated randomly with fluffy, white clouds.

  • Overcup Baptist Church in Vera is holding Vacation Bible School from next Wednesday through Friday.
    The VBS, which has a theme of “Come to the Island – Promise Island,” is open to all children age 4 through young adult.
    Sessions will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. nightly, with a performance on Sunday, July 1.

  • Aiden Lynn Graumenz
    Dustin and Rachel Graumenz of Glen Carbon are the parents of a boy born at 12:35 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

    Aiden Lynn weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 19.5 inches long.
    He has a brother, Declan, age 2.
    Maternal grandparents are Steve and Ann Ozella of Petersburg, and paternal grandparents are David and Amy Graumenz of Vandalia.
    Great-grandparents are Bobbie Payne, and Marjorie and Louie Warner.

  • The Rev. Alan Holtz will be celebrating his 55th year of his ordination as a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod pastor on June 30.

  • Ariabella Rey Greenwood

    Jeffrey Allen and Jo Lynne Greewood of Flora are the parents of a girl born at 3:39 a.m. on May 13, 2018, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
    Ariabella Rey weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 20 inches long.
    She has a brother, Quenton Alexander, age 9, and a sister, Jaqueline Paige, age 4.
    Maternal grandparents are Mary and Tony Schwarm of Sullivan, Mo., formerly of Vandalia; and paternal grandparents are Larry and Sharon Greenwood of Flora.
