    During the more than 50 years I served as a pastor, I met some of the greatest folks in the world. That might be a cliché, but I don’t know any other way to describe them. Pastors, laymen of the church and godly women who loved the Lord and wanted to serve him.

    On Monday at Fayette County Long Term Care, everyone caught the spirit! I really hope everyone was able to get out and catch a little sunshine, too. We were operating on wings and prayers!
    After greeting everyone, we opened  by singing "Happy Birthday" to Dorothy Halfaire, Joan Goldhardt, Bobby Kimbro, Jason Galvin, Cora Foster and Marie Sutton.

    CenterPointe Church to hold block party

    CenterPointe Church will be hosting a free neighborhood block party on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Lincoln School playground.
    The activities, which run from 9-11 a.m., will include relay games, carnival games, an inflatable bounce house, drinks, snow cones, cotton candy, face painting, balloon art, and free clothing and school supplies. At 10 a.m., the Broken Chains Band will perform.

    Steve Ladd in concert Aug. 10 at FBC

    Steve Ladd from Nashville, Tenn., will be in concert on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Vandalia.
    Considered one of the premier tenors in Southern Gospel music today, he will perform many of his award-winning songs.
    While singing with the Gold City Quartet, Ladd had a No. 1 song in "Preach The Word." He also has performed with the Statesmen Quartet and Michael English, and is a featured soloist with S.I. Homecoming Choir.

    Our meeting was too short Monday, either that or time is going too fast for these old bones!
    Softfire (David and Patricia Pence, with their border collies) played “Through it All” and New Orleans Bourbon Street music to start things off.
    We sang "Happy Birthday" to John Bollinger and Viola Stuckmeyer.

    What a great day for Evergreen Outreach and the First United Methodist Church. We are really busy this week with Vacation Bible  School (Sunday through Thursday), using the same Wesley Hall as EO. Our meeting  on Monday brought in a complete and total full house, nearly standing-room only!
