    The Jubilees to be at The Barn

    The Jubilees from Marion, Ind., will perform at The Barn in rural Pana this Saturday at 7 p.m.
    The family group consists of Warren and Kathy Johnson, and Dave and Christy Burnell.
    The opening act will be Joanne Clark.
    The Barn is located three miles east of Pana on Ill. Route 16, south two miles and then east one-half mile.  

    Down East Boys play Saturday

    The "Down East Boys" from Reidsville, N.C., will present a concert this Saturday at Bethalto Church of God.

    New Student Orientation at Vandalia
    Kaskaskia College invites new students to attend new student orientation at the Vandalia Campus.
    The free program is designed to introduce students to information and contacts important for a successful start of their college experience. Information about services, activities and classroom success strategies will be included. Students will be given resources they will be able to use throughout their time at KC.
    Students who attend this program traditionally perform better in college than those who do not attend.

    Garage sale Saturday at Liberty Christian

    Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown is planning a garage sale this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
    Proceeds from the sale will benefit the programs for young people at the church.
    A dollar bag promotion will begin at 11:30 a.m.
    The church is located 5 1/2 miles north of Brownstown on College Street.

    Major changes of people at our meeting on Monday, but God loves us all anyway – NOT a problem! Our wonderful Bettye Stolte played the entire meeting! What a champ!
    We missed FAYCO, the Vargases and the Schukars. Sure hope that we can see most of you next week. Get well, Katie and Bob.  
    We sang our regular meeting songs while we shared refreshments. We sang "Happy Birthday" to Ruth Montecue, Richard Kruenegel, Bob Durbin, Edna Jones, Ivan Swofford, Sharon Burgess, Joan Kelly, Lillie Sessions, Shirley Locke and Cheri.

  • National Day of Prayer activities set

    Under the theme of "Many Voices United in Prayer," the Vandalia Ministerial Alliance will host a series of prayer meetings in preparation for a breakfast on the National Day of Prayer.
    That breakfast will be held on Thursday, May 1, at 7 a.m. at the Crawford-Hale American Legion Home in Vandalia. Speaker for the event will be Staci Carroll, a member of First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.

  • FUMC's Grimmett picked to be district superintendent

    The Rev. Roger Grimmett, who has served as pastor of the First United Methodist Church  in Vandalia for the past six years, announced this week that he has been appointed district superintendent over 73 churches in the Mississippi River District in Southwestern Illinois.

  • Easter affirms that Christ is risen, and is with us

    Christ is risen! He is risen,  indeed!  Alleluia!
    The Easter season, also known as the Great 50 Days, began at sunset on Easter eve and continues through the Day of Pentecost. This is a season for celebrating with joy Christ’s resurrection and ascension, and the giving of the Holy Spirit on the first Easter (John 20:22-23) and on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2).

    Sunrise service, breakfast on Sunday at St. James Lutheran

    St. James Lutheran will hold an Easter sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. this Sunday.
    Following the service, a breakfast will be served.

    Yes! Yes! We had a leader today – the Rev. Jim Fackler! Yes! Yes! We had a pianist today – Donna Smith! Today our meeting went very well and on time. Our entertainer was Bob Langley and his guitar – more about him later. We missed our Vandalia Long Term Care friends. Where were you?
    We started out singing our special greeting and welcome songs as refreshments were served.
