    Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter and grandchildren Madison and Dru Eller of Jackson, Mo., spent Thursday through Sunday at the home of Mahala Harpster of Villa Ridge, Mo.
    On Friday, they visited Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Mo., and on Saturday, they went to Six Flags.
    They all returned home on Sunday.
    Visits Grandparents
    Tyson Urban, of Fort Wayne, Ind., spent last week with his grandparents, Larry and Sue Urban of St. Peter.

    Attendance on Sunday was 165 . Luke Bergmann served as acolyte.

    Bachelorette Party
    A bachelorette party was held for Mahala Harpster at the lake house of Harvey and Leona Jacquin at Lake of the Ozarks last weekend.
    Attending were: Belinda Harpster, Amy Reiss, Stacey and Haley Bergmann of St. Peter; Amanda Eller of Jackson, Mo.; Gretchen Harpster of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and several other friends and family members. The ladies enjoyed shopping, a winery and relaxing at the lake.

    Longhorns “Mooing” as We’re “Moving On”
    As we continue with the process of moving from the south end of the lane to the north end, the Longhorn family – Betsy, Geneva (the Bartels girl), Red and the two youngsters – are watching the “show” every day.
    They graze along the fence so they won’t miss anything. Betsy became quite vocal last week as she stood watching us working. She may have been complaining because we were tramping down the clover that was originally on their menu.

  • Goal for Tipsword tombstone reached

    The goal of raising $1,800 for a tombstone marking the gravesite of the first white settler in the Effingham/Fayette County area has been reached.

  • ExxonMobil Annuitants

    The ExxonMobil Annuitants Club met on July 25 at Chinatown Restaurant in Litchfield, with 34 members and four guests present.
    Vice President Mike Mulhern welcomed all members and guests followed by the pledge to the flag.  Brock Fisher gave the blessing prior to the buffet meal. 
    After the meal, Mulhern called the meeting to order.  The secretary and treasurer reports were read and approved. Birthdays and anniversaries for July were also read.

  • Class of 1943 reunion is Aug. 17

    The Vandalia High School class of 1943 will hold its 70-year reunion at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia.
    Class members and their spouses are invited to attend.

  • Meeting of Tea Party is moved

    The Brownstown-Effingham area Tea Party exhibited at the Fayette County Fair in Brownstown, July 7-12.
    About 120 fair-goers were given information about the PTELL tax cap law, and a petition advocating a vote on the law was signed by several voters.
    The PTELL tax cap law would limit Fayette County real estate tax increases to the lesser of 5 percent or the consumer price index, Tea Party officials said.

    The 51st Springman family reunion was held at St. Mary’s Church in St. Elmo on Sunday, July 21.
    The potluck was hosted by the George and Pauline Springman family.
