Penalty for vaping more strict than for tobacco use

By Rich Bauer, Managing Editor

Not only is Vandalia Community High School planning to add to its school policy the prohibition of Juuling, it plans to make the penalty for that more severe than that for tobacco use.
Randy Protz, VCHS principal, told the Vandalia Board of Education on Tuesday that they are seeing an increasing use of Juul, a type of e-cigarette that uses nicotine salts that exist in leaf-based tobacco.
Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Garrison said that concerns over student use of inhalants was discussed at a recent committee meeting, then had Protz talk more on the issue.
