Statehouse Christmas Open House is Saturday

A period-type lantern ornament will be handed out at this year’s Christmas Open House at the Vandalia Statehouse.

The ornaments are going to the first 100 families to register at the Christmas event, which will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. this Saturday.
The Statehouse will be illuminated by candlelight and trimmed with fresh greenery, fruits and nuts, decorations like those used when the building served as the state capitol from 1836-39.
Holiday music will be performed on period instruments by Baroque Folk, and refreshments of mulled cider and cookies will be served by members of Friends of the Old State Capitol.
Those attending the open house are also invited to visit the Fayette County Museum, which will remain open until 7 p.m. on Saturday. The museum is located just north of the Statehouse, at the northwest corner of Kennedy Boulevard and Main Street.
