St. Elmo HCE
Chairman Karen Wegscheid opened the Feb. 21 meeting of the St. Elmo Unit of Home and Community Education held in the St. Elmo Public Library with the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call, “Do you use any foods past their expiration date?” was answered by seven.
After the reading of the minutes, treasurer’s report and Fayette County HCE Board notes, Karen Denning gave the special feature, “Expiration Dates, Best By, Use By.”
Several said they did not pitch items on the expiration date; if canned goods are not dented and do not bulge out, they are still good.
Erna Koontz gave the major lesson, “Understanding CVH,” which explains how to keep track of the certified volunteer hours Home and Community Education members have done each year and can report at the end of the year.
Denning served refreshments of strawberry poke cake with pudding icing, chocolate Valentine candy, Sprite and peach sparkling water.
Others present were Sarah Beasley, Loretta Heischmidt, Carole Krost and Sharon Shelton.
The Tuesday, March 21, meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Elmo Public Library.
