5K run to be part of Grand Levee The National Road Interpretive Center is holding a 5K run as part of Vandalia’s Grand Levee on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m. Registration on the day of the run is $25 and opens at 8 a.m. The race begins in Ruemmelin Park, and the top five males and females will each receive an award. Proceeds from the race will benefit the National Road Interpretive Center, by providing money to help with the maintenance of the center’s exhibits. Questions should be directed to 283-9380 or nationalroadil@yahoo.com. St. Elmo Golf Club hosting tournament The St. Elmo Golf Club is hosting a 27-hole, two-person tourney on Saturday, Oct. 13. The two-person scramble will be played in flights, with prizes awarded based on the number of entries, which will be capped at 32 teams. A shotgun start will be at 10 a.m. The registration cost is $110 per team, and covers green fees, cart and lunch. YMCA’s Free-Throw-a-Thon coming up The Family YMCA of Fayette County will be holding its annual Free Throw-a-Thon fundraiser from Oct.19-21. Non-profit organizations may build teams of up to 10 people to each shoot 100 free throws in an hour time slot to help raise money for their organization and the YMCA. Team members will get pledges from individuals (for example, $1 per attempt), and that money will be split between the organization and the YMCA, depending on how much money is pledged. Prizes will be awarded to those who make the highest percentage of their attempts.
