Free throw contest is this Saturday

The Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a free throw competition at the Vandalia Junior High School gym on Saturday at 9 a.m.

All boys and girls aged 10-14 are eligible for the competition, with the winners progressing to a district competition and possibly to a state competition.

Last year, 334,000 kids participated across the country.

All contestants must furnish proof of age and written parental consent to participate. Entry forms are available at the school office, or kids may enter at the event.

KC holding softball camp for pitchers

The Kaskaskia College softball team will hold a pitching camp on Sunday, Jan. 22.

For players in grades 3-5, the camp will be from 9-11 a.m., and for players in grades 6-8,  the camp will be from noon-2 p.m.

The camps will be conducted by KC softball coaches Torey Crowell and Billie Ramsey, and current KC players.

The camp will include basic drills, types of pitches, basic pitching and radar pitch speed.  

Cost to attend is $35, and each participant will receive a free T-shirt.
