Highside RC racing is this Sunday at the Fayette County Fairgrounds

An indoor remote controlled car racing track has been installed at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in Brownstown.

Highside RC will be opening its track for racing on Sunday at 4 p.m. inside the heated horse barn at the fairgrounds.

The 60-by-60-foot oval track will be used for racing in several classes of 1:10 scale RC cars: Outlaw Modified, Outlaw 4×4, Youth Stock Modified 2×4, Adult Stock Modified 2×4, Youth Stock 4×4 and Adult 4×4. Drivers can enter in two classes per night.

The youth classes are for children age 8-15, and the adult classes are for anyone older than 15.

Feature races will have up to 10 cars, and there are driver entry fees. The fee for spectators is $2 per person.

St. Elmo Tourney opens on Tuesday

The St. Elmo Holiday Tournament gets under way next Tuesday with two games featuring three local teams.

In the tournament’s opening game, top-seeded St. Elmo will battle No. 8 Mulberry Grove at 6:15 p.m. That game will be followed by No. 4 Beecher City vs. No. 5 Brownstown.

Next Wednesday, pool play concludes, with No. 2 Altamont facing No. 7 Ramsey at 6:15 p.m., and No. 3 Cowden-Herrick facing No. 6 South Central at 7:45 p.m.

Vandalia Junior High seventh-grade tournament will be run this Saturday

Vandalia Junior High will be hosting a seventh-grade boys basketball round-robin tournament this Saturday.

The Jr. Vandals will be in action at 9 a.m. against Pana, and at either 11 a.m. or noon.

At 10 a.m., Greenville will battle Altamont Lutheran; at 11 a.m., the losers of each pool game will play for third place; and at noon, the winners of each pool game will play for the championship.

Jr. Eagle volleyball camp is soon

St. Elmo volleyball coach Elise Asher will be hosting the St. Elmo/Brownstown Jr. Eagle volleyball program  in January.

Boys and girls in grades 3-6 may register for the program, which will be held every Saturday in January, with third- and fourth-grade running from 9-9:45 a.m., and fifth- and sixth-grade running from 9:45-10:30 a.m. at St. Elmo High School.

Registration cost is $25, and each participant will receive a T-shirt. The registration deadline is Dec. 19, and forms can be dropped off at either school’s elementary office, or mailed to Asher at 300 W. 12th St., St. Elmo, Ill. 62458.

The program will teach children volleyball skills, including passing, serving and hitting, and team concepts will also be introduced.

Current high school players from both schools will assist Asher.

Vandalia varsity tennis awards

Vandalia tennis coach Kevin Schroeder handed out several awards at the team's banquet last month.

Award winners for the season were:
