Shannon White promoted to major

Ramsey native Shannon “Dewayne” White was promoted to major in the Army on Jan. 28
The ceremony took place at West Point, N.Y., where White has served for the past three years as an assistant professor of Russian.

The Department of Foreign Languages executive officer, Lt. Col. Mike Trotter, presided over the ceremony.
White received his new rank from his father, Danny White, and his children, Logan and Odessa White. His wife, Imke, was also in attendance.
White enlisted in the Army in 1992 as a Russian linguist. He served in Augsburg and Stuttgart, Germany, as well as Travis Air Force Base in California as an enlisted soldier.
In 2001, he attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a second lieutenant of infantry. In 2003, he served as a platoon leader in the 3rd Infantry Division during an invasion of Iraq.
After returning from Iraq, he served in Washington, D.C., as a member of the 3rd U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard). From 2006-08, White commanded two   military   intelligence detachments    within   the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson, Colo., and in Iraq.
In 2008, White began teaching Russian at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
In   June, White and family will move to Washington, D.C., where he will study Ukrainian before attending the National Defense University of Ukraine the following year.
White is the son of Danny White of Greenville and Susan (Kirkman) Kunze of Euless, Texas.
He is the grandson of Dorothy White.  His other grandparents, Dallas White, Al Kirkman and Evelyn Holtcamp, are deceased.
He is married to the former Imke Theliss of Augsburg, Germany and they have two children, a son named Logan Dallas White and a daughter named Odessa Louise White.
